packaging design for the ötscher:reich products at the alpine exhibition in the ötscher region
the 24th of april the alpine exhibition in the ötscher-region opened their gates under the name of ‘ötscher:reich’.
at ötscher:reich the activities reach from exhibitions, excursions and hikes in the ötscher region, to the three stations of the alpine exhibition. one of the stations is the recently built ötscher basis nature park centre in wienerbruck, where a restaurant and a shop invites you to indulge the purest pear ciders, elegant wines, specialties from the local bio-fish, venison, wild fruits, or the excellent ‘erzbräu bergquell’-beer.
FREILAND has designed a series of labels for a number of these locally produced specialties. this allows the regional producers to present and sell their products at the alpine exhibition under a uniformed ötscher:reich-brand.
as we believe that the focus needs to be on the products, we chose a reduced and simplified typographic solution, where we play with the corporate design typeface from the ötscher:reich campaign. alongside the reduced typography we present the products in an harmonically adjusted colour palette that also divides the product series in categories.
a visit to the alpine exhibition is absolutely worth your while!
and don’t worry, there’s plenty of time – ötscher:reich lasts till 1st of november.

guerilla bakery, flour packaging
when designing guerrilla bakery’s flour packaging, we decided to do it with a completely new approach. to get the discussion going, we chose four different designs that we published on facebook as well as in a small viennese café.
although our favourite did not win, all of the deigns were following the same principles:
we consciously wanted to distance ourselves from the typical conservative ‘mill- and grandmother-like designs, and at the same time develop a design concept that could easily be transferred to possible extensions of the product range.
this is how the idea of a prominent label complemented with an interchangeable background pattern was developed. a simple concept that – with ever changing patterns and colours – can show great variety, and a high brand recognition value.
whether it is a box, a bottle, a paper bag or a mason jar, the round label will do the trick on any shape and surface.

Raiffeisen in Austria is much more than just a bank.
One example is the cooperative travel agencies across the country, which organizes and sells holiday-packages all over the world.
Raiffeisen Reisen approached our partner ZWISCHEN DEN HIRSCHEN http://zwischendenhirschen.at for a complete redesign of their travel program for 2014. Through discussions it became clear that we wanted to make the project real.
Our idea: A converged consistent magazine – as a classic newspaper supplemented and extended by an iPad magazine.
To promote the program as well as the new catalog, we organized with our event partners CONSEQUENCES http://www.consequences.at the launch event for the 2014 program in Waidhofen / Ybbs.
While the newspaper is only available in cooperative travel agencies, the app can be downloaded in ITUNES STORE https://itunes.apple.com/no/app/aktiv-2014/id709594058?mt=8 for free.

Diners Club Partner E-Service
Diners Club asked us to develop an revenue control e-account for Diners Club card payments to expand their partner services. The development of this e-service was based on the concept "mobile first"; the partners are able to use this service at any time in the future to access their data on all available devices and control their transactions on the go.
The layout is very flat and optimized for touch devices. During the design process, our focus was on the tablet display - we then used the tablet version as a guide to our mobile phone and desktop versions.

Hoffmann und Campe Verlag
The second website we redesigned for Hoffmann und Campe was the classic publishing house homepage which differs from our first project, the corporate publishing site. The idea was to build a library or bookstore focusing on research where the user can find all books categorized and lots of useful details. Everytyhing from sample pages, audio and video to retail platforms and events. The page also gives a good overview of the complete works of the authors.

We Love 8Bit
After the great feedback on the first 'we love 8bit' art show in Hamburg that was initiated by Thomas Carls and Tim Carstens, Freiland approached the initiators with a proposition to bring the exhibition to Vienna and even Berlin.
With each new city the show has grown, and in Berlin – the last city out – there were about 100 artist and even more 8bit-related artworks.
The list of contributors includes not only European artists, but also several artists from the United States and South America.
We are currently in the planning of continuing the Art Show and we look forward to all that await us in the future.
Finally, thanks again to everyone who has contributed and helped.

Hybrid iPad Magazine
StandOrt – The iPad magazine of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the State of Schleswig-Holstein, on the tradefair Expo Real 2013 in Munich.
Thus underlining the importance of their co- operation, the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg jointly presented themselves in this industry magazine for EXPO REAL 2013, for the first time.
FREILAND realized an adaptation of the the print edition (designed by lab3 mediendesign) as an eMagazine for the iPad®. To check the outlay of an 1:1 version, we purposely chose a solution without any complex interactive features, that specialized iPad apps allow. This gave us the opportunity to focus on converting a magazine designed for print into a native app, and to test the acceptance within the related target group during the trade fair.
The results were truly amazing!

Freiland Anlog Studio
It all started with a power Blackout in our office, we have this documented on Facebook. A short time later, the first auxiliary supplies came with analog devices (notebooks). Thus the idea was born and we initiated a little just fo fun project.
We started with the adaptation of Apple ads to showcase our "Blackout Kids" and the matching SDK, then we faced the question of what we do with the ads. So it started with a blog and the first posts are written.
With the growing number of Post and our own analog apps we developed, the ads beaome more its own character.
We hope to get more ideas from creative to raise the issue of a 100% analog idea.

Corporate Design - Guerilla Bakery Vienna
Guerilla Bakery is a once-a-month initiative of three sisters that bring their love of baking to the streets of Vienna. Their pop-up bakery is hosted by different locations every time, luring people from all corners of the city to taste their sweet treats but also calls for a very particular kind of visual representation. To reflect the philosophy of Guerrilla Bakery and the sisters' personalities, we're working on a playful, sassy new identity. The logo is at the heart of the design, as its simplicity and versatility allows for it to be integrated easily and everywhere the sisters may find themselves. The font was created especially for the bakery, to make sure that the pop-up sensation's unique nature is reflected in every aspect of the designs.

Exhibition Atelier HafenCity
The HafenCity project in Hamburg is currently Europe’s largest inner-city development project – a blueprint for the development of a European city on the waterfront.
10 years ago, when the project HAFENCITY was launched, the area was dominated by noise, dirt and harbor work. In 2003, we created an exhibition, tackling the question of how to build a new, urban and vital township out of this barren area.
16 architects were planning the HAFENCITY and the exhibition presented current developments and the future plannings for the next few years.
The focus was not only put on the final result, but also on the architects' mode of operation, the way they respond to the challenge of the particular location.
We have deliberately tried to show the philosophy, the individual touch and the personalities of the architects and wanted to give an insight into the diversity of the architectural and artistic approaches.
The 800sqm space was designed as a large design studio.
Different media from the architect's everyday life built a vital showcase of the diverse architectures, designs and philosophies.
Among the 16 architectural offices were David Chipperfield, EMBT from Barcelona, Benthem Crouwel from Amsterdam and BRT and gmp from Hamburg.
From July to November 2003 up to 1,000 people daily visited the exhibition!
